Isomalto-oligosaccharidesare glucose oligomers with a-D-(1,6)and a-(1,4)-linkages, including isomaltose, panose, isomaltotriose, isomaltopentose and higher branched oligosaccharides. The majority of oligosaccharides found in IMO consist of 3 to7 monosaccharide units linked together; however, disaccharides, as well as longeroligosaccharides(up to 9 units)are also present. The disaccharide fraction of IMO consists ofa-(1,4)-glycosidic bond linkedmaltose anda-D-(1,6)-glycosidic bond linked isomaltose, while maltotriosepanoseand isomaltotriose make up the trisaccharide fraction. Maltotetraose maltopentaose, maltohexaose, maltoheptaose, and small amounts of oligomers with 8 or highen degrees ofpolymerization(DP)comprise the remaining oligomers in the product.
